They understand commerce,
give-and-take; they know that when someone gives you something (like scraps of food) they're going to want something in return. They apprehend that shiny things usually suffice. Reception invites reciprocation invites repetition. So they lay the bright things by, waiting for the generous stoop-sitters to give them a reason to come down from the wire and trade. My first attempt at a dVerse prompt! This poem is a response to April 4th's "anthropomorphism" prompt. I hope I did this right!

Stand in one spot
and see how many people say the same thing to each other as they pass by it. I took for granted that it was embarrassing to say what had already been said and wanted to shush the trite obviousness. Yes, I know this is incredibly belated...but I wanted to say thank you to David Callaway and everyone over at the Black Lab Gallery; I had an amazing time featuring at the Poetry Lab back in November!
Most of my Pulp books are gone, but I've got still got one or two to sell and the Black Lab Gallery has the rest. I'm only psychic alternate Tuesdays--
just enough to toe-keep the gang. Watch me unmasking your surprises and translating your glances all day until visible night-stars dump me into dense Wednesday. Come back with games and now I'm calm,
let me organize your ways with my means. I can wave my arms and legs and make it all make sense. When I'm right I'm right and I'll even rose you. And then maybe I'll yell hot and tired at you, pissy glare, grump on the steps, but so help you I'll enjoy those roses. I wrote this a while back, but I like it and wanted to share it with everyone, so I'm using it as my dVerse OpenLinkNight #194 poem. OpenLinkNight is dealer's choice on poems. Constructive criticism welcomed! For those of you who don't already know, I will be featuring at Van Slam tomorrow, Vancouver, BC's amazing weekly event! The show starts at 8:00pm, but it's recommended you arrive by 6:45 if you want a seat. Cafe Deux Soleils fills up fast!
Café Deux Soleils, 2096 Commercial Dr, Vancouver, British Columbia V5N 4B2 Canada I am proud to unveil my new book! It's called Pulp. It's about fruit and sex and you can buy it here. If you're lucky enough to live in Vancouver, BC, you can come see me read some of it on November 9th at Van Slam! I haven't been to Van Slam in a few years, but the last time I did I loved the place. You have to have great people to make great crowds, and Vancouver does.
Update!
I will be featuring at everettpoetrynite on September 17, 2015, and at VanSlam in Vancouver, BC on November 9, 2015. Expect some video from at least one feature, if not both. In fact, my everettpoetrynite feature from 2014 is already on youtube! The day has arrived! My wonderful readers, I know some of you are poets too. As writers, we want to share our creations with the world...but sometimes the world gets sticky fingers. As I am the only practicing lawyer who is simultaneously a performing slam poet that I know, I want to do what I can to help out my community in the ways only I can, and what I can do and want to do is protect your chapbooks from plagiarism!
Visit my newest website for more information on how this all works, you lovely, sensible poets. |
